Who did you see for your first concert?
My first concert was A Flock of Seagulls and The Go-Gos at the old Boston Garden (where the Celtics/Bruins play). My Dad chaperoned, and there were 3-4 of us kids. It was totally awesome!!
Friday night I took my fiance's 13-year-old daughter and one of her girlfriends to see Christina Aguilera at the new Boston Garden. In addition to higher ticket and t-shirt prices, times sure have changed!
Danity Kane (that's the Band that P Diddy "made") and the Pussycat Dolls opened. To paraphrase Chris Rock - these girls were one step away from the pole! Our seats were pretty far away, but thanks to the help of huge projection screens and the kids in our nosebleed section, I got to see every pelvic pivot. Yikes. I've seen tamer moves in adult entertainment movies! I've posted my concern about the Pussycat Dolls before. Now that I've seen their "act," I can describe the problem a little more clearly: These girls are adults, and their target audience should be adults, too. They started as burlesque dancers, right? So why are they shakin' their groove things in front of a stadium of pre-teen girls?? Have you ever seen a 10-year-old do a sexy hip shake n' thrust? Well now I have, and it's horrifying. But I digress.
Going in, I was nervous about protecting the girls from the kind of crowd these acts would draw. I was expecting dirty old men and 20-something hoochie-mamas. Instead, I got to enjoy the music and let their parents handle the barely-there ensembles and sexy lyrics. The "threat" wasn't from the crowd, it was from the stage!!
Somehow I managed to bridge the role of fun concert-goer and responsible adult - the girls actually insisted I dance with them!! And Christina is an amazing performer. She successfully mixed old and new songs, there was a lot of dancing and an entertaining stage show. She changed outfits at least 6 times! This was a fun, girly concert, the only guys there were on dates and they didn't look too happy.
At the end of the night, the girls thanked me for taking them -- the crowds were overwhelming and they actually felt safe with me. I don't think they'd say that it was "totally awesome," but, like, we had an amazing time! Success!!
What was your first concert??
Cheers, Lara

Flock of Seagulls + the Go-Gos? That's awesome! Mine was Randy Travis, which is kind of ironic seeing as I'm not super into country music these days... I definitely remember the sea of mullets I saw there though. All kinds of fabulous.
i bet your fiance is glad you took them rather than him, i imagine he would have felt really awkward.
my first concert was bryan adams ("reckless" tour) at the new haven [connecticut] coliseum in 1985, with my friend lori, her mom, and my dad.
after that we figured out ways to trick our parents into letting us go alone.
My first concert was ACDC "For Those About to Rock We Salute You". I started big.
My first concert was also ACDC, "For Those About to Rock"
The first concert I saw ever saw was Heart. I went for the opening band though -- who never made more than one or two big hits before falling out of popularity.
Late 70's - Andy Gibb! All of my friends were into Shaun Cassidy, so Andy was all mine!
Hmmm... I'm not sure exactly who my first concert was. Maybe the Newsboys?
The PCD really irritate me. I usually describe them as "those singing strippers".
radiohead, wed oct 1 2003 6:30 p.m., i still have the ticket stub
The J-Giels Band. I lied to my parents, went with friends, had lawn seats, drank vodka, listened to the music, danced, and had an extremely good time. I have to admit though-that I would have preferred ACDC (I'm envious!)
Canadian bands, The Spoons, and Gowan.
My cousin was a roadie and gave us free tickets! I quickly graduated to Motley Crue and Aerosmith after that!
New Kids on the Block, Sweet Sensation, & Dino. I was about 7ish, we sat in the VERY last row at the Providence Civic Center. I cried when Jordan Knight started singing "I'll Be Loving You Forever"
KISS at the Spectrum Philly in 1979. Judas Priest opened... I was 10. It was the best day of my life.
well, next to my first born... and getting married, that's still up to debate though ;)
Debby Louise, it may interest you to know that Peter Wolf lives in my building. I have ridden the elevator with him several times, each time saying something dorkier and stupier than the last. He looks exactly the same! And KISS in '79? ACDC is great and all, but I believe we have a winner!!!
;-)
what parents let their 10 year old go to KISS??? Oh, right, TESCO'S parents!!! (the poor father was in england, bless his heart...)
;}
Guns N' Roses with Metallica.
I own tesco.
That would be in 1992.
Crap. Maybe it iwas '91. I can't remember. All I know is I was young.
I'm sorry, NO ONE beats Berlin - because Frankie Goes to Hollywood opened for them! Me me me me - I win I win I win!! (1984??)
(step away from the internet old lady)
She does own me!
My dad actually brought me there for my birthday. The show landed right on my 10th birthday that year, like it was meant to be. I do have to say as the actual winner so far, Berlin w/ Frankie had to rule. ;)
KISS, and it was on my 11th birthday at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. My dad took me and the teenagers from across the street. I thought I was big time.
Cheap Trick was my first concert
Metallica, when I was 15. Ironically, it was my best friend from college's first concert (same time, same place), but we didn't meet until 6 years later, at college in another state. Hmmm...
i think kiss WITH JUDAS PRIEST OPENING has to win the day.
speaking of concerts on your birthday, i went to see duran duran (my favorite band of my younger years) on my 16th birthday, which also happens to be john taylor's birthday. that was pretty cool.
Sorry everyone - Tesco def wins this one. Lorraine takes second with Cheap Trick. Anyone who saw one of these shows on their birthday takes third place, because come now - Duran Duran on your 16th birthday? Priceless!
Alice Cooper Welcome to my Nightmare. I was 12 and my sister had to take me. What a fantastic show!
Shaun Cassidy...Da Doo Run Run, Da Doo Run Run !!
I went to see Marky Mark and the funky bunch way back when. Feel the vibration...I think that was the only song he every had that was a hit. You know what though? He still looks good.
thanks to living in Vegas, my first concert was The Jackson 5 with Janet also coming out on stage.

Smashing Pumpkins with the Beastie Boys! I'll never forget!
"OZZY" and "AC/DC" second.....kinda not to sure order after that....OK...I am getting old....
I saw the Beach Boys when I was 5 and then my parents bought me tickets to see the STONES, Voodoo Lounge Tour for my 15th bday! Both concerts were awesome.
I´m latin, live in Central America, and my first concert was RICKY MARTIN, beat that!!! He had long hair at the time... I was eleven and still remember how he danced.. YUMMY!!!
