Maybe they just LOOK dirty....
In a couple of weeks, I'm going to see Christina Aguilera in concert. I can't wait!! Ever since she taught America why EVERYONE needs to vote, I've been a huge fan. Plus her voice ROCKS!
I'm the chaperone for my fiance's 13-year-old daughter and one of her friends. As the "adult" here, I'm a little worried.
The Pussycat Dolls are the opening band.
They disturb me. Deeply.
There's an article in today's New York Times about a reality show that starts tomorrow that's all about their search for a new "Doll". The producers claim that the Pussycat Dolls are all about female empowerment, and that every girl's fantasy is to dress up like a doll. Not about girls who are busy "working the pole," which was my impression. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but at 9 pm/ 8pm on regular tv??
The producer of the reality show says that the "Don'tcha" song doesn't literally mean, "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me," it means "Don’t you wish your girlfriend could be free and comfortable in her own skin and do her own thing, like me?" HA! As if!
Now, we like to keep things light over at ChickChat Radio. And I was a tomboy growing up. Maybe it's just not my taste or I'm a prude (ok, if you know me - stop laughing! I know! It's ridiculous! I'm NOT a prude!). But whenever I hear one of their songs, I feel like I need to take a shower immediately. And the idea of being in a huge stadium with a bunch of tweens and dirty old men for this concert makes me want to buy industrial-sized purell.
I think these girls look like a bunch of streetwalkers and are trying (successfully) to appeal to men. They are pretty and I think they can sing. But to try to pass them off as decent role models?? That's just crazy talk. Why can't they stick to their knitting and leave the teenage girls out of it?
What do you think??
Cheers, Lara

I agree with you Lara. Female empowerment does not mean (to me anyway) dress like a hussy and sing with your legs wide open as you squat.
To me it means respect yourself and your body and show you are an intellegent person . That you are taking control of your life and the direction it's going in.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being sexual. I know men like it and women like to feel that way. Are the Pussycat Girls saying look at my body it's hot and you can't have it because I'm in control of it? I don't think the teenage group gets that message.
I love the song Don'tcha. I never got that they were singing that don't you wish your girlfriend was free and comfortable like me. I translated the song as I'm hot, she's not.
The Dolls should be honest and say they are a sexual group. Is it demeaning to them saying that? Am I wrong? Any men out there with a different point of view?
I'm sending Lara some Geritol for her birthday! : )
(hey kids, get off my lawn!)
However, I am someone who would not let my tweens go to that concert (or any concert).
Does anyone remember when they were going to come out with Pussycat "dolls"? Like literal dolls in fishnet stocking and leather for little girls to play with. I was shocked and extremely relieved when that idea was sacked. I don't find these women empowering at all. To me they are not sexy in the least. What they do degrades women. It's not done tastefully or with any self respect at all. And I'm relatively young, 23, and I love showing a little skin and feeling good about myself. But I honestly could not feel good about myself knowing I have the opportunity to be a role model for young girls and I show them how to Loosen up their buttons while girating and humping a chair. And everyone wonders why children are growing up so fast and that having a childhood is so archaic. I agree that these women are very beautiful but honestly what has made them famous is their boundariless acts of "slut" and not their talent.
I love the Pussycat dolls, and for one would like to be one. But I am kinda weireded out that they are being promoted as tween role models! I'm thinking they fall into the "R" rated catagory!
I agree with Carrie, i actually do love their music - very catchy and kinda makes you feel sexy lol. but ye - role models it's a little too much. especially considering the fact we dont know even the names of most of them. i remember just the hot doll - Nicole(?)that is always in the middle:)
the pussycat dolls, yea they are wayyyy tooo racy for teen girls because they are projecting the wrong influence, making teen girls dress like sluts and act like them too. we need better role models so that teen girls dnt end up strippers or hookers because thats the influence the pussycat dolls have on them.
I think the pussycat dolls are great and that everyone needs to lighten up. If you are worried about them being role models then maybe should talk to your kids about what they think makes a good roll model. All tween girls want to look older and its nothing new and will never change what needs to change is that parents need to be parents instead of being embrassed by something like this.If you are embrassed by them then I guess you don't like going to the beach, girls wear less there.I guess you won't to have seprate beaches for grown ups and kids.
It's about remembering how good it feels to be a GIRL. And yes, it's about GIRL POWER!!!
Teach young girls about the responsibilities involved with being the kind of girl that guys want their girlfriends to be like. Teach them to love theirselves and other woman. Teach them to love being a woman, -to love being a woman.
If you disagree, you should be ashamed of yourself. And, if you don't like the Pussycat Dolls' music and/or lyrics, then you probably have some kind of resentment toward yourself for not being the kind of woman you want to be.
I have to say, I totally agree that the pussycat dolls are exploiting the female beauty and trying to exemplify themselves as empowered, when in actuality, they are far from it. They are selling sex, bottom line, to tween age girls that idolize them. These girls have no clue about what it is to be sexually empowering, and at their age, they shouldnt. Thats the reason why we have so many preteen pregnancies. I am a father of 3 daughters, one a teenager, the other two tweens, and I do not allow music like that in the house. I have explained to them that it is vulgar and inappropriate for them to idolize a woman that is selling their body and not their music...look at Amy Grant, Evenesence, Natalie Imbruglia, Melissa Ethridge, KT Tunstal, and even the Spice Girls, and many more. All of these women have made wonderful music, and careers by empowering women in a positive manner, the way it should be. Pussycat Dolls are exactly that, dolls that should be taken off the shelves!
i agree with laura but what about christina augilera. i think the female singers of today has gotten to sexual. here a single mother is trying to raise 5 boys and i am trying to teach them to treat women with the up monst respect and then the girls today do not treat themselves with respect.i went to my 12 year olds school and i dont know 20 girls or more walking down the hall in skirts and shorts that feemales my age would of never made it out of the house in. if we want to stop the famous females then we have to have our daughters to stop dressing like them
The people saying the Pussycat Dolls are about girl power or about "dressing older" must be pretty young themselves. Being powerful is not about being able to show/shake your ass or rub yourself suggestively. And dressing older doesn't involve 5-inch skirts, boyshort underpants as outerwear, or bras as shirts. Neither does dressing like a doll! What kind of dolls did these people have? Hooker Barbie? People wear less as the beach, but they're at the beach and there's a reason. They're not hovering over someone's face or a camera jiggling their buttocks and smacking 'em. The Pussycat Dolls are basically high-end go-go strippers set behind one questionably talented singer. The "hits" they claim to have are largely unnoticed by the over-16 population, except for the freakily chosen Heineken commercial song "Dontcha," which certainly is saying, "You should come screw me, I'm hotter than your girlfriend. Forget about her!" Way to go with the girl power. Manipulative sluttiness, that's what being a woman is all about.

Pussycat Dolls are role models? That is pretty preposterous so I thought..but I was shocked that they were pitched that way. I know that every generation feels a disconnect with the habits and happenings of the younger folks..but I think we are crossing a line here. Pussycat Dolls are role models on how to be 'hot' in the bedroom..but for everyday it probably isn't a good look. Although in general I find confidence empowering, i don't want the teenagers to have their confidence based exclusively on their appearance.
i am hot
