Do you have "fat" jeans?

I have packed on at least 15 extra pounds over the last two years. Until this weekend, I owned two pairs of jeans. The last time I bought jeans was at least 3 years ago - I hate shopping for jeans, I love wearing jeans.

Why would someone who hates shopping for jeans do just that??

First, my regular jeans ripped. Right along the butt:

Then, my fiance may or may not have put the other pair in the dryer, on high. It's also possible that I just outgrew them. Either way, I tried to put them on last week and couldn't get them up over my thighs, let alone zipping or buttoning them.

It occurred to me that I've been wearing a lot of flow-y dresses, maternity-looking shirts and leggings lately ... I finally connected the dots. I need to stop eating! No - that's just crazy talk! The real epiphany? I needed jeans!

So I went jeans shopping (groan) this weekend.

It took five stores and $60, but I finally found jeans that fit. Sure, they're TWO SIZES larger than the last pair of jeans I bought, but at least I don't have to lie on the floor to zip them up.

My new goal is to need SKINNY JEANS.

Anyway - I was cranky the rest of the day. I was mad at myself for going up TWO clothing sizes, and furious that the little spare cash I have went to buying fat jeans, instead of, say - cute jeans that I feel sexy in. My fiance says they look good, but I think he's a little afraid of me at this point.

Do you have experience with this phenomenon? Please share!!

Cheers, Lara

i have the same pair...3yrs old same rip, but on both sides!

I refuse to buy a larger size, so i continue the dress over jeans look whenever i wear those particular 7s.

in the meantime i have joined the gym. ugh.

I hate jean shopping!! I finally just started looking for jeans that made me feel sexy no matter what size they are. That helped it out a little.

Yer the best and don't even know it.

I was told once that every woman owns at least 10 pairs of jeans. Ha ha! you just proved them incorrect. Excellent!

and doesn't every woman own a pair of "fat jeans"?

if you would like assistance in the personal training department, i can help set up a program for you. just email me.

good luck either way =) and thanks again

The only thing worse than shopping for jeans is shopping for bathing suits.

At this point I think I have jeans in nealry every size known to man. Only two of which currently fit. Wait-- make that one-- got a rip like yours just last week in my favorites, and I tossed 'em. It was heartbreaking!

OK, first off...I buy a certain brand of jeans from Wal-Mart (yeah, I know but they are the ONLY brand I like that fit me well) and I have three different sizes that I wear. Sizes 14, 16, and 18. Oh and I even have a size 12. Anyway, I LOVE the size 16, yes they bag on my arse a little but they are soooooooo comfortable!!! The 18s I don't wear all that much anymore unless all the other ones are dirty. The 12s? LOL On rare occasion do I wear them cause they are a little tight to say the least.

Today I have on a size 14.

Screw the sie issue, just go for comfort. ;-)

Kate & Suz - I'm hoping to sew these, too, when I can fit into them again! Klarissa - did you find sexy jeans? WHERE? B- You're money and you don't even know it (and no, I never had fat jeans before!). kbee - truer words never written! c.a. - I'm TOTALLY going to WalMart, thanks for the tip!

I totally get the denim nightmare . From my experience the only thing harder than shopping for jeans is shopping for bras . The two are a lifetime of torture. I ran around in the same bra style for 15 years then the company stopped making it . I actually cried . It was the same feeling I had when my husband cheated . Then after about a year of looking for the perfect bra I found one at all places Target!
It's the most flattering comfortable thing I have ever worn.
I quickly bought ten to tide me over and every once in a while I go pick up another ten hoping they never stop making that style . As for jeans my only advice is keep trying ...them on . Eventually something will fit and feel like it was made for you . I personally only have two pairs also . I run around in Khaki pants and flip flops . For some reason The Gap has mastered the Khaki pant so just about anyone can find a pair . The next step beyond the denim nightmare . Good Luck !

The day that I stopped fitting my fat jeans, I cried. Granted, I am pregnant, so I had good reason not to fit my fat jeans any more... but it was sad. I always wear my jeans out on the inner thigh - oh the fun!

I've found that Gap jeans tend to fit best. They have a variety of fits, styles, and washes, so I can always find something that makes me feel fantastic.

I have one pair of jeans that I used to live in a couple of years ago. They haven't fit in a long time, but I one day hope to be back in them!

why is it that women 2 sizes larger than me and 20 lbs heavier look fabulous in jeans, and i look like a sow? although i adore them, i (sadly) don't believe every women is meant to wear jeans :-(

I've found my recent ones at Gap. AND had to get the next size down!! (so they sizes MUST be inflated there, which can't hurt....)

I like to call my extra heft 'boyfriend fat'...it's now 'fiance fat' and is soon to become 'married fat'...basically I moved to London and actually lost a bit of weight as I was walking everywhere. Then I met my guy. Started eating with him regularly. Walked less. Spent even more time with him and eating with him. And now, less than 2 weeks until the wedding and I've put on a stone since meeting him (which is 14 lbs for non-Brits). So yes. I do understand. And yes. I will be shopping for a new pair of jeans when I come home to the States. And hopefully I will lose enough weight for my June honeymoon that they will no longer fit. But I have a feeling that this is not going to happen...ya know, cause of 'married fat'.

I never get rid of my jeans that don't fit anymore because I am a jean pack rat. I probably have more than 10 pairs in my closet that are designated as 'I'll get back to you later' jeans. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. I just splurged all of my birthday money on a pair of Lucky jeans from Buckle. They were soooo expensive but they fit really well and are very comfortable

I hate jeans...I hate jean shopping...to be truthful...I don't even own one pair. If you aren't size 5 or smaller they just aren't that flattering...nor are they that comfortable, unless you want to shell out a good half a fortune!!

Just before reading this I was thinking about how I am wearing more track pants and skirts. I really need to stop eating too!!! lol My fat jeans are now my tight ones.

The best fitting jeans I have found are from Old Navy. I have an extreme hour glass figure, 41-29-41, so it's always been impossible to find pants that fit my hips but don't fall off at the waist. The curvy cut from Old Navy seem to fix this problem, especially if I buy them in the just below the waist rise. I'm only 22 so the higher cut is a little mom jean-ish for me, but it's better than the alternative showing off what my momma gave me every time I bend over or sit down.

I love denim so much that my couches in my living room are denim. I have so many pairs in so many sizes ranging from a 14 to an 18. I've stayed in the 16/18 pair for the last year since I decided to stop "dieting" and just focus on overall health. I have actually been wearing the same jeans for a year! Now, for me that's amazing! I've always worn a diffent size from year to year with all this yo-yo dieting. Don't sweat the difference in size. But remember, no matter what size you are, always try to look your best by flattering your curves, or just what you like best about your body at the time. Put on some cute earrings, maybe a little make-up and you'll feel better. For me, a deep v-neck shirt instantly makes me feel sexier and more confident. A little cleavage never hurt anyone!

I have 2 pairs of jeans that fit ok. I've lost some weight but not equally, so now jeans that fit in the waist are too big in the thighs/butt or vice versa. The one pair that fit like a glove ripped in the same place.

My sexy jeans come from Wal-Mart. Don't cringe, but they're the only ones that fit my shape, feel great and can even help on those "fat" days. Its the Faded Glory brand, I can't seem to wear any other brand and have it fit my rear.

Hey, I have always had a problem with ok lets say it- a fat butt! Since H.S. l when some guy shouted out hey fat ass in front of the whole school so totally embarassing! so I heard of these weighted shorts by NYK they sweat your hip area, melt pounds off and are weighted so sleek you can wear them under slacks/ skirts at work to tone loose inches on hips and thighs long story short I went down from sz 12 to a 6 in a year I now look at my sz 12 jeans and can NOT believe I was ever that huge these work checkout NYKNYC

I have a pair of jeans that I've worn now for about 6 years. They're comfortable, but my brother calls them "Mom Jeans" no disrespect to mothers, but he's disappointed that I won't venture out to buy another pair. My sister teases me as well. She reminds me that I'm not a Mom "yet." I guess I just hate shopping for jeans-anything but jeans. Now shoes are a different story!

I recently purchased a pair of trouser jeans from Lands' End of all places, and I loved them so much I bought 2 more pairs.
The waist is low but not too low, the dark rinses are plenty modern for me to wear in NYC, and the trouser cuff makes them just dressy enough for work meetings. And as a girl with more hip than is really reasonable, these even fit!

Hang in there! I have done this more than once. I currently weigh as much as I did when I was nine months pregnant with my second child. I started walking, health club,(1 cookie a day only) and it will slowly melt off. It's unfortunate I did that because I originally lost all the weight from that pregnancy. Most of us have done the fat jeans!

Hey, Size 12 is not so HUGE for some of us! Respect please, there are people of all sizes on this board. And believe it or not, size 12 is below the average size for women in this country. It's actually a goal that I have set for myself.

Posted by Allison on March 29 at 07:39am

yes,,,,jeans, jeans,,,,,,,alway's tight on the butt an thighs an big on the waist tryed many brands,i think levi's are the best try them

I owned a pair of fat jeans size 12 up until last week. I'm a size 8 and I used them to go everywhere (grocery shopping, window shopping, etc.) however my boyfriend despised them because they made my ass look saggy!!! He gave them dirty looks and always used them to clean the countertop when dirty!!! I threw them out of pity.

Posted by Jean1975 on April 04 at 05:45pm

i own a pair of jeans that are now my fat jeans (formerly the only pair of jeans that actually fit, but now are wayy too huge and are reserved for fat days) i've had them for 2 years now,i've sewed and patched the, but i will not get rid of them, they are comfotable, plus i have a tendency to wear jeans until they fall apart.

Posted by wildcherry on April 05 at 10:28am

Ok. Here is my take on jeans. They are something every girl NEEDS so...If you buy them and don't absoloutly love them there is no reason to have them. I think it is perfectly fine to spend a ton of money on jeans that you LOVE and save the bargain hunting for say...a trendy top you know will not be in style forever. And about the fat jeans thing...its a little cheaper to have a fat tracksuit, and more comfy too.

What were my fat jeans r now my skinny jeans. How depressing. But I guess after 11 miscarriages,1 birth and a battle with depression my body shows what its been thru.
Yes, I need to stop eating and hopefully try and remember who I was.

I have 5 kids and am getting ready to be 40. Age and children are not kind to a womans body. I think if you live life like your supposed to and be a good role model to your children size is just a number it doesn't represent who you are.

Posted by madconly on April 11 at 09:25am

well I can sure sympathize with everyone here about the whole too fat for my jeans thing,I have spent the past 3 years gaining 75 lbs and loving every minute of it but now I live in sweats and my fat jeans won't even come up to my thighs...ugh...my BF loves me fat and wants me to gain even MORE weight...and I have gotten so lazy I just want to give him what he wants...now that I am over 200 hundred pounds,I have crossed that line and am piling on the weight faster than ever. my B.F. loves it...but it scares me...
