Did the fat lady sing?

Last night I experienced the bookends of musical performances.

I went to the Opera.

Then I came home and watched American Idol.

I love the Opera and American Idol.

I think there are a lot of similarities. In fact, you can guess which statement matches with which type of performance?

Watching American Idol and/or watching an Opera is great for the...

- Dramatic storyline
- Excitement of watching a live performance
- Costumes!
- Freaky carnival side-show-esque characters
- Hair and makeup styles
- Love stories
- Audience antics
- Suspense (who's going to get eliminated?)
- Shared cultural experience
- Oh yeah - the music!!

Oooooh, I am so jealous! You went to the Opera?! How exciting. I'd LOVE to go to the Opera, at least one time in my life!!! Maybe someday.

CA - ANYONE can go to the opera! YOU can go! I don't know where you are, but most cities/towns have some kind of regional theater or university performance (even Juneau Alaska has an opera program!!). The opera I saw the other night was a dress rehearsal (read: FREE TICKETS!!), but even tix at the Met in NYC can be had for $25.

I am in north Alabama, Huntsville to be exact. I'm sure we have something around here. We are populated! LOL But now you have me on a mission to find one!
