How do you care for a cold?

hotsoup.jpg

I have a head cold and I'm souped out. I've eaten nothing but soup for 3 days - chicken vegetable, pumpkin white bean, and mushroom barley. Yes I'm lucky - my boyfriend went to a soup place and got me all kinds of soup when I came down with this pesky bird flu - er, head cold. Today's soup will be eggplant parmesan, and then that's it for me - no more soup for a while!

Don't get me wrong - I love soup! But enough already.

What do you eat when you're sick to feel better? Please help, I'm looking for ideas!

Cheers, Lara

I love my mac and cheese. and jello. those are usually gentle on a sore throat.

my usually-health-food-centric mom used to always make us "magic milkshakes." they were, uh, you know, ice cream and milk! blended up! and, like magic, you suddenly start to feel better. works every time.

I eat:
- Steamed white rice with fried eggs
- Noodle soup with whatever
- Bread
- Cake

Actually Amy - you just reminded me - my mom's magic milkshake was milk, ice cream - and a RAW EGG!!! How did we survive?!?

Here's a remedy that can't lose, Mom's "Hot Toddy"... hot tea with lemon (you can add honey too if you want) and my personal favorite ingredient, a healthy dose of bourbon whiskey! Sure to clear your sinuses in record time!

OK so your all souped out, but there is one particular soup which is very very high in anti oxidants which is MISO Soup. BUt, if you cant stand soup at all anymore, include some gatorade in your diet, it will replenish the electrolytes in your body, giving you more energy. Head colds, basically time is your best friend here, your body neads to find immunity agianst that particular bacteria. If it is viral, you just need to stay put and maintain a good nutritional diet. It is important to still get protein, otherwise you will feel weak. Fruit cocktail (blueberries are high in anti oxidants), vitamins that fiz into some orange juice, get your B vitamins with leafy greens, green tea with honey, rice with some butter and maybe accompained with some broccholi? It is mostly about time like I said, and maintaining your vitamin intake. Your body needs its normal nutional intake in order to function properly, in turn, healing itself.

I have had only one cold in the past 4 years, which is amazing in itself considering our winters here can get as cold as -60 celcius..

the one I did have during that time frame was last January, a terrible sinus infection...I remedied with zinc lozenges, generic allergy pills and a bowl of chinese noodles with hotsauce.
I think spicy foods consumed while suffering a cold caused one to "sweat it out"

well, my dad says, "have a glass of scotch, it'll help", and he's usually right! It kills all kinds of colds and germs! :)

p.s. why does it seem like women ages are always so catty? damn i would like to make a few good girlfriends...i am tired of hanging out with men that eventually move on to a relationship even if "it" isn't there.

any thoughts?

Nix - Camp Bombshell IS for real! It's like going back to Kindergarten in some ways - everyone looks at each other with optimism. All the Lady Campers leave "catty" at home. It's so hard to make new girlfriends, this is a great place to do it! Check the Bombshells out at www.miamibombshells.com - there will be camps across the country next year!

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
