Why "The Departed" is a Chick Flick

I saw "The Departed" last night, mostly because it was filmed here in Boston, my boyfriend wanted to see it, and it was playing at a convenient time.

What a lovely surprise - there I was, expecting a typical Martin Scorsese testosterone-filled movie, when instead - it's a Chick Flick!! Sure it's about the Boston mob and undercover cops - but you just can't beat the eye candy:

Matt Damon in a uniform!

Finally, a movie where I see Leonardo and don't think "Gilbert Grape"!

He's got all his clothes on and a bad haircut, but Mark Wahlberg almost steals the movie with funny one-liners (plus any excuse to look at this picture...):

But wait, there's more! Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin, and Martin Sheen are great in the movie too.

Overall - one of the best movies I've seen this year. Worth seeing at the theater because I'm telling you - these guys are at the top of their game and they are HOT-HOT-HOT!

Are there any other "guy" movies that you love?

Cheers, Lara

I'll definitely watch this one. My husband loves the mob movies like Godfather, Good Fellas, type. I usually don't watch them. However, I might give this one a shot. Just because of the "Good looking Guys factor"

Guy movies... I like "Heartbreak Ridge", "Pale Rider" (Clint Eastwood) Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, are those Guy movies?

I've read quite alot about this movie. It's not really my type of movie. The "eye candy" might change my mind. So I might check it out. I'm Not sure yet.

A guy movie I love is Boondock Saints, those brothers are so rough and tumble and hot in a bad-ass kind of way.

And I like Pulp Fiction plus Bruce Willis and John Travolta look good in it.

Id recommend Kill Bill 1&2 anyday, its nice to see a girl defending herself properly in a movie for once!

Wow, you whores make me sick and no I'm not religious. Can't any of you sluts enjoy a movie without fantasizing about fucking other guys than your married to? If you need it that bad go watch some porn with your husband, at least then he is getting his fair share of infidelity. If your husband knows and is ok with this stuff then more power to ya, 2 concenting adults and all that jazz, but if your not sure right now, that he is ok with this, you ARE cheating. Single girls, go ahead.

Sounds like someboy is upset about women doing exactly what men do. Get over it. Get yourself a Playboy and have some fun.

Wow... I am not the kind of person who goes to see a movie for the hot guys in it, but that doesn't mean I don't occasionally turn my head. I am in an awesome relationship, and we can openly talk about what attracts. We joke about it. We're human. People need to accept their own beliefs, but not throw them upon other people just because the other people have loosened up.

I just saw the movie last saturday and I loved it. Leo was hot as the good boy turned bad boy turned good guy and even the usually robotic Matt Damon was good. Jack Nicholson played his part like it was written with him in mind and I even really liked the girl who played the social worker.

I love organized crime movies more than chick flicks, usually, but I loved this one almost as much as I loved Good Fellas.

I agree that it is a chick flick, especially since there are some greusome parts, you can snuggle up to your man when those come on.

Oh my goodness, Disgusted's remarks made me laugh out loud! I don't remember voting on a moral keeper to keep me in line, but if I did, I would vote on somebody that has an IQ over 100.

Disgusted, you are a pittiful, angry soul. Please get some help for yourself and tackle those out-of-control abusive anger issues. Your abusive language should be an alarm that you need serious help in your life to rectify your violent tendencies.

By the way, why are you in a section clearly marked "chick chat" if you are such a woman-hater? Because no man who respected women on any level would abuse us the way you did. You should be ashamed of yourself. You owe us all an apology.

I think what you need is to lay off the French fries and work out a little. This will improve your body image, and therefore reduce your jealousy over guys that are hotter than you.

Also, you should take an English class before you make a fool out of yourself anymore. Learn the difference between "your" and "you're" while YOU'RE at it.

I saw this two weeks ago with a guy friend. We were both disappointed. We both love the Godfather (I and II, III not so much), Goodfellas and the like. I know, I know...I'm a chick who likes guy movies. So when I watched the Departed, it wasn't about who was hotter...it was about how Scorsese has just now become predictable. And how Marty seems to only have the soundtrack to Goodfella's on his iPod -- most of the music in the Departed was all too familiar.

I saw this movie with my "Significant Other". We're in our 50's. I don't ordinarily go to this kind of movie and wouldn't recommend it to someone who can't stand violence. But, over-looking that part, the movie was fast-paced, action-packed, and entertaining. We talked about the details of the movie for a long time afterwards. You gotta love that Jack Nicholson as a bad guy! I'D SEE THIS MOVIE AGAIN!

I was dragged along to see the movie with my dad and brother, and had never heard of it. To my surprise, it was the best movie I'd seen in months. The amazing cast and the suspensful mystery had my full attention. It is also one of those movies that you have to pay close attention to the really view the cleverness of the production. The Departed gets an A+ in all categories- writing, directing, acting, and so forth.
