Apples, anyone?
Going apple picking in New England is as traditional as shoveling snow in winter. You HAVE to do it! It's a fun outing, doesn't take too long and then you have a ton of fresh apples around. Of course, the easiest and most common mistake is picking too many apples - we made that mistake last year and it's just sad! This weekend when I went with Boston Guy and his daughters, I declined my own bag and encouraged everyone to go with quality over quantity so that we wouldn't be faced with way too many apples. How did I do on that quest? Well, let's see....
We came home with this many apples:
And so far we have made ONE apple pie...
a bunch of peanut butter and apples...
We even made pork chops and apples for dinner one night. We have gone thru at least 2 dozen apples in 3 days, so how do those bags look?
It looks like we haven't touched them. We had a great time and everything, but I'm running out of ideas over here. Anyone got any good apple recipes???
Cheers, Lara

What is with all the fake posts and fake blogs at Ivillage. Just wondering.
Make apple tarts and give them away or take them into work!
Apple sauce. Its so easy! I just peel, cored and slice them. (the smaller the pieces the quicker it cooks). Add a little bit of water (1/2 cup or so) and just let it simmer until desired consistency, adding water if necessary. I don't add sugar (unless the apples are really tart) but I do add cinnimon red hots for flavor and I like the pink color. Plus the house smells faboulous when done. If you can food, this can be canned. I just keep mine in the fridge and it lasts about a week.
Katie - WORD - it tastes sooo much better that what we think is applesauce from the store. Now I'm craving it!!! Lara, can you make me some??
Absolutely, Heidi - I LOVE fresh applesauce! And since no one else in my crowd (Boston Guy/his girls) likes applesauce, we'll have a big batch all to ourselves!! When I was a kid we used to dye it different colors - you haven't lived until you've had my blue applesauce!!
It is so good. I just love making it during the fall. For me it embodies the tastes, smells and colors (red) of Autumn.
i have a better idea... instead of wasting so many apples, why don't you send it to a shelter or to the salvation army. they would truelly appreciate it and you will feel more better knowing that you have made more people happy just by showing that you care... you can even hand out some of the apples to the guys out on the streets, they will iether eat it, give it to their children or even sell it for a buck or two... whatever they do, it won't go to waste.
how about-->apple jelly?
or
apple juice?
or
apple crisp?
