Find Your Inner Charo
After Carmen Miranda but before Shakira - there was Charo!
I saw a new Geico commercial w/ Charo -- and had to ask myself is she really was still alive. Yup. Alive alright. And as "Cuchi Cuchi" as ever!!!
8 Things You Might Not Know About Charo:
1. She learned Flamenco Guitar from Gypsies who camped on her grandparents farm
2. She was on the Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson 45 times
3. She holds the record for guest appearances on the Love Boat
4. She was born - María del Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza de Rasten
5. Twice voted "Best Classical Flamenco Guitarist in the World" - Guitar Player Magazine
6. She's got a new CD out: Charo and Guitar
7. She's got a son! Shel Rasten
8. She had the same work/life balance issues we all did. She pretty much gave up her stardom for her son:
"When my baby turned five, we didn't have any children to invite for his birthday," Charo recalls. "And I made a decision. I didn't want my son to become a typical show business kid who grows up and writes a book called "Cuchi-Cuchi Dearest." So we canceled everything -- Las Vegas, Atlantic City, New York. We even canceled Broadway -- I was supposed to do the life of CARMEN MIRANDA. And we up and moved to Hawaii"
She's a smart sexy woman, who won't stop. Full of love. Full of life. We can all learn a little somethin' from Charo.
You Go Charo!
Cheers! Heidi

Wow! Who knew that Charo was so dang impressive??
P.S. I'll now have the Love Boat theme song in my head for the rest of the week. Thanks for that. ;)
She was on The Surreal Life two? maybe three? seasons ago. Crazy broad, definitely, but she was probably the coolest and most sane of the bunch.
I saw that commercial last night and almost fell off the couch. She's also featured on VH1's I love the 70's redux. She's a fantastic Guitar player.
I wanted to be her when I was a kid. LOL It's great to see that she hasn't lost her sense of humor.
Here's a question: how old is she??? If I remember her on Loveboat, she's O-L-D.
Thanks to Josey I now have the Love Boat song in my head too. And who knew that Charo could become a parenting role model?
Born Jan. 15, 1941, so she was 65 on her birthday.
her oficial cirtificate of birth from spain says 1941 but in 1977 she told a u.s.a court that she was born in 1951 and they gave her taht as a birth year.
I think that Charo is a consummate performer, and a brilliant woman.I was present at the shooting of her GEICO commercial, so I was able to get a first hand impression of her. She is everything you see , and much more. She's also absolutely gorgeous in person, with a figure to envy! The silver-haired man sitting next to her saying "I love my car like I love my wife", was adorable.I'd better think so because I've been married to him for 31yrs. When he says he loves his car MORE than his wife, then, I'm in trouble.
Until the Geico Commercial with Charo and Mr. Stanley Smith, there wasn't one ad that I could listen to. I'd quickly change channels or mute it. But...I love this commercial. Whoever thought this one up is brilliant to have put them together. How refreshing to get a message and get "entertained" at the same time by the fantastic Charo.
What make of car does Mr. Smith love as much as his wife?

Dear Arabella: I know both Stan and his incredible wife Leni. Not only is she beautiful, she's a creative designer, a pianist, an interior decorator, loves animals, and best of all, she is one of the most kind human beings you'd ever meet. We all met 3 years ago and my husband and I feel as if we know them forever. They are both wonderful and we love them dearly! Leni is the "Rolls Royce" of women.
But I like your humor Arabella. Nice line.
