Which towels do you use?
Haven't we all been here before?
You're in the home of a friend or a relative. You use their restroom. You wash your hands. As you turn off the sink, you realize you've got a HUGE decision to make! Do you use the pristine cloth towel that's hanging on the rack, which looks like it's never been touched (see above, left)? OR do you use one of those fancy, folded, thick, deeply-designed and colorful paper towels that live in their own special pile on the sink? The colors are so rich you wonder if the ink will run onto your wet hands (see above, right).
This is not the home of your best friend, in which case you'd use your jeans as a towel and call it a day. Is it more polite to use the PAPER towel, or the CLOTH towel? ARGH!!!
I used the cloth towel, figured there would be no evidence and I would have saved a tree. What would you do!?
Cheers, Lara

Oh, I KNOW. I always go for the cloth ones, too. But they tend to have that weird stitchy stuff on them that makes them a bit..forbidding. I feel like these sorts of guest towels are sending some sort of message. Just what message that might be, I can't be sure.
What about the homeowner's own personal towel? I'm always tempted to use that - but only if the person is a clean type. That way you get real, plush cotton and not some suped up paper towel or scratchy guest towel that doesn't dry well. Anyone who leaves their personal towel in the bathroom when guests come over is just inviting use.
What if the towels are fancy AND rolled up or arranged in some weird table-napkin-type fashion? Once at a boyfriend's grandparents' house I nearly had a panic attack deciding not only whether I was allowed to unroll one to use it, but then was I to roll it back up when I was done? I opted to shake off the excess water and pray.
I go cloth, they get your hands more dry. I say if the towel is out, you have free reign to soil it.
If the homeowner left both in the bathroom and the cloth towels are folded nicely, it is a safe bet that they are "decorative towels" not to be used. They have obviously placed the paper ones there for you to use. You can never go wrong using disposable towels.
HELP???Do you know where I can buy those"decorative towels"?
